Speed & Simplicity Through Kiosks

How UX design turned drop-offs into conversions for Logic Vapes

Role: UX Designer, Copywriter
Tools: Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator

Challenge

Customers were frequently abandoning purchases due to long queues, unclear product information, and a clunky checkout flow. My task was to design a self-service touchscreen kiosk that delivered a fast, intuitive, and compliant shopping experience within fast-paced retail environments.

My Design Approach

I took a user‑first approach, using field research and in‑store observations to uncover:

  • Slow, confusing checkout causing drop‑offs

  • Unclear product details creating hesitation

  • Intrusive, poorly timed age verification

  • Cluttered touchscreen UI

I focused on simplifying flows, clarifying information, and embedding compliance seamlessly into the journey.

Key Solutions

  • Flow architecture redesign – Moved age verification upfront to avoid late‑stage drop‑offs while maintaining compliance

  • Educational micro‑videos – Short animations during onboarding to build trust, explain products, and reduce staff support needs

  • Hardware optimisation – Partnered with hardware teams to ensure ergonomic, responsive kiosk design suitable for high‑traffic stores

Wireframing & Prototyping

Using Figma, I translated sketches into mid-fidelity wireframes to prototype and validate flows.

This helped align internal teams and speed up delivery. The visual design prioritised high contrast layouts, large tap targets, and streamlined UI components.

Special focus went into refining:

  • Age verification prompts so ensure visibility and minimal friction

  • Product selection interfaces to reducing decision fatigue

Iteration & Outcomes

  • Moved age check upfront to cut abandonment at checkout

  • Simplified navigation with category first layout

  • Optimised UI for speed and clarity in high traffic use

  • Resolved early friction from misplaced age check and heavy transitions through rapid iteration

  • Post‑launch observations confirmed higher engagement

Final Reflection

This project proved that simple, compliant UX can deliver measurable business impact when grounded in real world user behaviour and cross-team collaboration.

If I tackled this again, I’d run more accessibility audits upfront to ensure the kiosk was optimised for all users, and I’d integrate real-time analytics to fine-tune flows post-launch.
