Background

Exploring the design process for a touchscreen kiosk that sells Logic Vapes in retailers. The objective was to create an intuitive kiosk improving the customer experience while ensuring compliance with age restrictions and regulations.

Challenge

Customers often face challenges when purchasing Logic products due to a lack of product information. Logic approached McCann Worldgroup about creating a dynamic user experience for their Irish market. Through touchscreen vending machines situated in retailers. Logic’s objectives were to increase product sales and increase awareness to users of the Logic brand and their product portfolio.

Pain points

I approached the design from the customer’s viewpoint, using existingf research to to identify pain points. I The overall research highlighted the following pain points.

  • Long checkout times at physical stores.

  • Unclear product details and options.

  • Difficulty in verifying age for compliance.

  • Frustration with complex touchscreen interfaces.

Goals

My design goal was to ultimately create a transactional product offering a contemporary interface providing a clear and intuitive experience for Logic customers. To promote responsible purchasing, I targeted implementing a age verification method before any transaction within the main user journey. Throughout the experience I wanted to provide customers with a comprehensive understanding of product information and pricing, with a seamless checkout process to ensure a smooth purchasing experience.

Site map ideation

After understanding the user by defining user goals and challenges, I created a sitemap to understand how all screens connect with each other. I proceeded through generating wireframes and gained inspiration from other companies who utilise automated retail such as Mcdonalds. I was in frequent contact with Aeguana developers regarding questions I had relating to what was technically viable regarding the CMS.

Wireframing and prototyping

The low-fidelity wireframes were presented to the client and Aeguana, therefore providing them with current coverage of the project before proceeding into the visual phase. With the initial outcome complete; a client call presentation was arranged. For the presentation I provided the accounts team with a couple of animated user flows examples; allowing the client to have a better understanding regarding navigation. The client feedback was minimal as they were impressed with the outcome.

Design choices

  • Intuitive buttons with clear categories for easy navigation.

  • Detailed product pages with high quality images and descriptions.

  • Quick payment process supporting cards and mobile wallets.
